The Battle of Liège

Hey guys. This is my latest MOC. A diorama of Liège streets during the Battle of Liège happened in 1914 between 5 and 16 August. The city was sorrounded by forts to protect it and the Germans used super-heavy siege guns to destroy and surrender them. It was the first battle of the First World War. The battle delayed the Germans four or five days in their way to France.

Main picture of the whole diorama

Reference picture

Above you can see the reference picture that inspired me to build this scene,  A street of the city close to the Meuse river. The buildings I decided to build were houses with a coffee shop and a little clothing store in the lowest floor. I tried to mix the best I could the few colors I had to build the buildings (dark red black and white) and I'm very happy with the result.

German troops advancing

A monument

To create the German troops I used the Pickelhaubes and the field cap very used in the early stages of the war. I think they look accurate for the first week of the war. Belgian troops consist of two regular army soldiers and a Belgian Guide. They looked like XIX century Hussars.

The water is my favourite part of the diorama

Buildings are only the part you see. The facade. It made the whole build lighter and easier to build because the use of less parts.

Finally here you can see the Youtube video I uploaded of this diorama.
